SUMMARY:Interprofessional care from the policy and manager lens: building an interprofessional Pediatric OR team using a skill mix approach.
DESCRIPTION:Session description: Interprofessional education has often faced the challenge of being integrated into the continuum of care as an afterthought. When new clinical environments and care processes are designed from the outset\, interprofessional care can significantly improve operating room efficiency\, particularly in settings with limited resources. A deliberately planned skill-mix approach\, led by the clinical team\, can optimize the contribution of each professional\, support role complementarity\, and enable the development of innovative care pathways.\n \nSpeaker Bio: Dr. Marie-Andrée Girard graduated from medicine and anesthesiology at the University of Sherbrooke in 2010\, later specializing in pediatric anesthesia. Having worked at CHU Ste-Justine for several years\, she continued her practice in remote areas\, serving both children and the general population. She also contributed to the organization and management of healthcare in these regions. Deeply interested in topics related to regulation\, the oversight of professional systems\, and interprofessional collaboration in healthcare\, Dr. Girard completed a PhD in law at the University of Montreal. Through her involvement in associations\, publications\, conferences\, and collaborations with various national and international organizations\, Dr. Girard focuses on health practices that build bridges and promote better collaboration among stakeholders to enhance the quality of care. She currently holds the position of Director of Quality of Care and Interprofessional Organization\, in addition to her clinical duties.

SUMMARY:Supporting Integrated Stroke Care Transitions: An Interprofessional Learning Simulation
DESCRIPTION:Presenters: \nDr. Sue Bookey-Bassett\, RN\, PhD\nAssistant Professor\nDaphne Cockwell School of Nursing\nToronto Metropolitan University \nDr. Sherry Espin\, RN\, PhD\nAssociate Professor\nDaphne Cockwell School of Nursing\nToronto Metropolitan University \nDescription: This presentation describes the development of a video-recorded\, actor simulation aimed at developing quality and safety competencies for interprofessional integrated stroke care. The simulation was co-developed with a team of academics from Toronto Metropolitan University and expert stroke clinicians from Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. The simulation focuses on the roles of the team members in the context of an interprofessional integrated stroke care team coordinating the care of an older adult living with stroke and other comorbidities. The scenario evolves through two scenes which includes two care transitions: 1) acute care hospital to rehab hospital; and 2) rehab hospital back to home in the community. We will describe how the simulation can be used as an interprofessional education learning resource in academic and practice settings.

SUMMARY:Assessing Collaborative Relationship-Focused Practice: A Means to Carry This Out with Dr. Carole Orchard
DESCRIPTION:Session Description:\nSince the release of CIHC’s Interprofessional Competency Framework there have been many questions about what does this look like in practice? Until recently tools to assess this form of practice have been absent. Over the past several years\, a group of international ‘experts’ across six countries have worked together to address this gap. There are now audit tools developed and reviewed across a few IP International Conference Workshops to ensure they are useful. In this presentation you will be introduced to this work and how the four formative assessment tools can be used in practice settings. Furthermore\, you will be invited to be testers of these tools to evaluate their value and usefulness to the field. \nSpeaker Biography:\nDr. Orchard is currently Professor Emerita and Adjunct Research Professor in the Arthur Labatt Family School of Nursing and the former Coordinator of Interprofessional Health Education & Research at the University of Western Ontario. Her research focuses on interprofessional client-centred collaborative practice. Dr. Orchard and her colleagues have developed several measurement instruments: Interprofessional Socialization & Valuing Scale (ISVS) and the Assessment of Interprofessional Team Collaboration Scale-II (AITCS-II for practitioners)\, AITCS-II for students\, Interprofessional Collaborative Leadership Scale (AICLS)\, and Patients with Diabetes Ownership of their Self-Care Scale (PD-SCOS). Dr. Orchard co-chaired the Canadian Interprofessional Health Collaborative’s IP Competency Working Group who developed the CIHC National IP Competency Framework (2010) and assisted in the 2024 revision to the framework. She has also chaired an international working group on audit tools to measure the process of collaboration in teams. Now moving to testing of the tools. Dr. Orchard has also created an online program TEAMc (Toolkit for Enhancing and Maintaining Collaboration) to assist in the development of Interprofessional Collaborative Teams. This program is licensable for agency use through WorldDiscoveries at Western University. In 2015 she published a book with colleagues on Interprofessional Client-Centered Collaborative Practice: What does it look like? How can it be achieved? Dr. Orchard has also published articles on the role of nurses within collaborative teams. Her research currently focuses on the role of patients both in their own self-care and in collaborative teams. Currently she and colleagues are developing a Training Program in Interprofessional Team Conflict Resolution. And is co-editor with Dr. Hirronobu Matsushita of Innovative Collaboration in Healthcare published by Springer in 2024.Her work is frequently cited in the field of IPC.
